4. Does ‘Being Bad’ relate well to the other modules you are taking? If so, how? And if not, why not? Not really, however in my other modules you have to think about things in depth, which is what 'Being Bad' has made me do also.


5. Have you found ‘Being Bad’ too demanding, too easy, or at an appropriate level? I have found some of the weekly subjects a little shocking and I feel that it has gone against some of my religious values. This module has not been demanding and the assignments haven’t got in the way of any of my other modules.


6. Do you think the list of topics covered on the module was appropriate? They were appropriate to the module theme and they did get me to think about what you should class as bad.


7. Are there any topics not included in the module that you would like to see included? There is nothing that I can think of.


8. Do you think that the format for classes has worked well? Yes


9. What did you think of the module team? I think that is good that you have a team of experts from different areas of education.


10. Do you think it would have been better to have had more: No, not really.


11. Small group discussions? Yes I think it would have help blog post to have broken up into seminar groups.


12. Discussion and debate among the class as a whole? There were the 'usual' people who spoke out at every lecture, it may had been better to of asked others.


13. Information and talk from lecturers? Handouts were good to look at after the lectures and helped when posting blog entries.

The approach taken in the module is interdisciplinary (drawing on perspectives from English Literature, Film Studies, Creative Writing, Philosophy, Religious Studies, Media Studies and Politics): do you think this a useful way of approaching the topics covered in the module? Yes as all of the subjects raised in the lectures do cover these subjects, however where were the topics that may have been included into a social care course?


15. Do you think that interdisciplinary modules are a good idea? Not sure .


16. Do you think you have benefited from the interdisciplinary approach taken in the module? Not really.


17. Would you like to see more modules that cover this kind of subject matter? I don’t think I would, I mean I have enjoyed Being Bad but some of the topics were a little too much.


18. Are you planning to take the follow-up module PH2004 ‘It Shouldn’t Be Allowed’ at level 2? No as it’s not in my course options.


19. Would you recommend ‘Being Bad’ to a friend? Yes I have already done so.


20. Do you think that the blogs (web logs) were a good idea? Yes, I have really enjoyed them.


21. What did you think of the other assessments (e.g. would it be better to have one longer assessment rather than two shorter ones?) No I think if we had one long one, it would have interrupted my learning in other modules.


22. What have you learned from the module? That different people have different perspectives of what is bad and that people from different areas experience situations that I would never have thought about before this module.


23. What parts of the module have you found most useful and why? The smoking lecture as this is the one topic I found really interesting.


24. What parts do you think were a waste of time and why? The religious topic as the information supplied was knowledge I had already had.


25. Are there any other comments you wish to make regarding ‘Being Bad’? No.

Gambling

Gambling - would you class this as bad? For me, personally I wouldn't class it as bad, however gambling has never caused me or people close to me any trouble. By trouble I mean bankruptcy, loss of family and friends or financial debt.

There are several forms of gambling for example;

• Bingo
• Fruit machines
• Roulette tables
• Lottery
• Scratch cards
• Bets (Horse racing, football scores etc.)

Gambling can be bad if don't know when to stop, however gambling can be a form of an easy money earning scheme, however if can be the root of a serious addiction.http://www.gamcare.org.uk/

Walking home from a lecture and what do I see?

Because I live on a little crescent situated on the city’s main car park, which is seconds away from the University, people feel that it is OK to throw, chuck and drop there little in the bushes opposite my garden. This really annoys me, especially when I see one of my ‘being bad’ lectures doing it also, what made the situation even worse is she looked at me and laughed, how rude is this?? This is one thing of would definitely call as BAD!!!!!

People talking over others!

Is this bad?

Whilst sitting in week 10’s lecture, I noticed a number of students chatting away like there at the ‘pub’ or any other place where learning does not take place! Whilst students who were making a contribution to the lesson discussion, others were being damn right rude and talking over them and not even giving them the ‘time of day’!

Yes this is bad, not only did they disturb my attention and concentration but possibly and probably others. Its bad because we pay £100 a day to attend University to learn, but how can when whilst others are disrupting and jeopardising this experience and learning process.

Lying continued.

Is lying gender based?

• When thinking about this question, I feel that my answer would be NO, as even though many women would argue that men lie more than females and men would argue the opposite.
• However I feel that gender is not an issue in lying and that everyone and anyone can lie. Is it possible to lie and gain nothing?

I feel that if a person lies you always gain!

• Even if the gain isn't positive to oneself, you will end up with a feeling of guilt from lying which is a negative gain.

What do you get out of lying?

• You may say that you can benefit form money if you like, e.g. receiving job seekers allowance whilst you actually have a full time job.
• Protection of others - keeping a divorce secret form your children.

Lying

This weeks lecture was based on 'lying'. In this lecture we discussed why people tell lies. My thoughts on this are; people tell lies to protect themselves, for example one might lie about being late in, in order to protect themselves form being punished or told off.



Lies can be made also to hide information, for example surprise parties or not telling people when your driving test is, for this point I feel that this example is not a form of 'bad' lying.



In discussion with the class, we made a differentiation between lies which are;

• White Lies


• Major Lies

Personally I would class white lies as lies that do not hurt others or yourself and major lies are ones that do hurt others.

A few lies that come into my head, when thinking about white lies are;

• The truth about Santa clause


• The tooth fairy


• The Easter bunny

Marlene's blog is very good, she has reflected back on each lecture and has given her opinion on each of the weekly subjects. She also used experiences from her everyday life and has analyzed whether or not these experiences should be classed as bad.

In commenting on her recent post about 'violence on the street', I have to agree with her on how people who cause fights and aggro up town, when enjoying a night out should be classed as bad. My reasons for this are that hurting one another is bad and that anti social behaviour should not be tolerated. People go out to enjoy themselves, not to be victimised or to be constantly watching over their shoulder!

The Bad Cinema Lecture!!

Well what can be said about last nights lecture, in my own words it was disgusting and went against a lot of my religious values. After discussing the film with my parents, they were as disgusted as I was, I was told that I needed to go to repent my sins after watching this film. This film I'm discussing is called 'Kids' and was made by Larry Clark who was a photographer turned film maker. Some definitions that we were given at the start of the film were;

  'A movie about kids but not for kids'

• 
  
  'The directorial debut of Larry Clark..... a man who makes some of the most nasty, envelope pushing films... but not for mass audience'.

To the first quote made I have to disagree, I do not class my self as a 'kid' but I felt that this film was not for me, it broke to many values that I live life by. And the second quote I'm slightly unsure whether I agree or not.

We were asked to think about the below questions;

1.How does the film deal with morals?

I felt that the film didn't think about morals as it neglected all human morals along with social and emotional moral. It accomplished this by the actions of the actors and the general story line.

2. What is its target audience?

The target audience for this film, I'm not sure what to say as I no that they allowed family's to watch it but after myself viewing it I feel that the film shouldn't of been made.

My final thoughts on this film is its nasty, disgusting and I don't want to watch it again. Larry Clark must not have had a wide imagination as why would all these beautiful girls featured in the film want to 'lose it' with a skinny ugly gimp like him?????? With this I will finish as it makes me mad!!

After reading Fran's masturbation post, I was left feeling 'why didn't I say that in my blog'. She gave a clear image of how the lecture went, expressing her own thoughts and feelings, whilst discussing the topic further. She used good images to display what she was discussing and also added a URL into the post. Although she hasn't made many posts, I feel that is she includes information like she has in this post than her weblog should turn out successful. Nice one Fran !!

Body Modification.

In this lecture we talked about 'no invasive practice', which is basically body modification that doesn't alter your body's structure. And 'invasive practice', which is adding or removing things from your body, for example having your ears pierced.

We then discussed religious reasons for body modification and how the below listed religion have all been against the act at some stage.

• Judaism
• Islamic

A nice quote which represents this point is

'As the body is created by god it is an attack on him to change it from its natural state'.

We then we on to look at a lot of body modification images, some of which were shocking!!! My views on this lecture are that body modification shouldn't be classed as bad unless people are forced into it, like in peer pressure or in slavery. It is a way of expressing ones personality, showing individuality, where you come from or what tribe or clan you belong to.

Being too religious?

This weeks lecture, for me was a real bore, we started off by with the lecturer saying a prayer, which was a christian prayer that mentioned Jesus christ. This created an up rore in the lecture room with people from different backgrounds and religious groups being there. We were then given a questionaire to fill in about how the lecture started, we were given boxes to tick about how we felt, I ticked the uplifted and embarrassed boxes, this was because I felt happy about hearing a prayer form my own religion but embarassed for others who do not follow the same religion. Other people answers ranged from embarassed, annoyed and angry.

My Tattoos & Piercing

I was sixteen when I had my tattoo done (above picture). I know I was wrong to have a tattoo at such an early age, but three years down the line and i still don't regret it. People say that having a tattoo hurts however all I felt was a numbing sensation and after having it done like a lot of other people I had the urge for another one!! I was only a few months old when I had my ears pierced for the first time and since then i have had then pierced around six times. You may argue that having my ears done at such an early age was not my own choice, which I would gladly agree with, however I feel that after having them pierced and re- pierced that this was my own choice. I will report later on the lectures discussion on this subject.

Bandits & Outlaws

In this weeks lecture we concentrated on the subject of 'bandits' and 'outlaws'. When thinking about this topic: Robin Hood comes into mind, he was the noble man who robbed from the rich to give to the poor.

We were then asked to think about when are the bad guys, the good guys? The were divided into bandits and social bandits. Social bandits are champions of the weak. They are peasants who have fled the bonds of serfdom. These social bandits wouldn't steal form the immediate locality but from another village.

We then went on to discuss 'Jesse James', who came from a well - off family who owned their own slaves. He was a bandit with a social conscience, classed as a Weston robin hood and a political figure.

Mid - Module Evaluation

The first six weeks of 'being bad' have been quite an experience. I have enjoyed posting for the weblog and also in planning for the first assignment (due in week 7).

My favourite weekly programme so far, has to be week two's smoking lecture, as my first thought were 'here goes another why not to smoke lecture', but found that it was totally different and a lecture I really enjoyed.

I do not have any ethical issues to raise or report so far and do not have any queries sbout current or future assignments.

I feel this module has been displayed and set out efectivley and dont actually wont this module to end!!!

Infidelity

During the infidelity lecture, we discussed its definition and came up with flirting, lust etc.We then had an exercise where we had to think of a film or book where infidelity took place. Then we were asked to think about the 'bad' elements involved in infidelity,which are;

• emotions


• scheming


• and knowing others vulnerability and using it!

Field Trip??

After going to the 'Being Bad' lectures and discussing several different topics, I feel that a possible suggestion for a field trip could be to go to 'Star City'. My reasons for this is because at star city there is a number of activities to do which range from bars and restaurants to casinos and movies. Here I feel would help students to think about the topics which we have gone through and the topics that we will be going through, such as gambling and bad cinema. It would also create an experience for students and lecturers that have never been to star city.

Stalking

After watching; Peep show, 2005, Productions. During a lecture, we were asked to answer the following questions. When does a concerned interest in someones activities became stalking and are some kinds of observance allowable and appropriate.

Thinking about these questions, I personally feel that being concerned in someones interest cannot be classed as stalking. However when the person who is interested in another person and starts to copy them and follow them that it when I would class it as stalking.

Observance is allowed for research or other kinds of observation however I feel that when observation gets out of hand like constantly and for no real good reason then I would class that as stalking.
